Senate Bill 597 (Statutes of 2024, Chapter 861) (SB 597) requires HCD to consult with specific state agencies and non-governmental stakeholders to help develop recommendations regarding building standards for the installation of rainwater catchment systems for nonpotable uses in newly constructed residential dwellings. SB 597 requires HCD to develop a report of recommendations to the Legislature by January 1, 2027.
Submit Comments on Draft Report
HCD has developed a Draft Report of Research Findings and is holding a comment period from August 24 to September 10, 2026. The goal of the comment period is to collect feedback from stakeholders to inform recommendations and to collaborate on research related to SB 597. Responses and recommendations will be reviewed and may be incorporated into the final report.
