Veterans' Preference

If you are a veteran, you may qualify for extra help when applying for a job. This preference is also available to eligible widows, widowers, and spouses of 100% disabled veterans. This extra help lasts until you get a permanent job in state government.

LEAP for People with Disabilities

LEAP stands for Limited Examination and Appointment Program. This program helps people with disabilities get state jobs. If you qualify, you can take an alternate test. LEAP makes it easier for everyone to join our team.

No College Degree Needed

HCD works with University Enterprise Inc. (UEI) that offers part-time paid student internships in a real-world setting. This program is open to Sacramento State students and students attending affiliated colleges. Please visit the CSUS University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) Job Portal and filter by “Housing & Community Development” to see all available job opportunities available at HCD.

Qualifications required for working as a Student Assistant:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Enrolled and attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable), at any qualifying institution of higher education, with a minimum of six (6) semester units or nine (9) quarter units for undergraduate students; four (4) semester units or six (6) quarter units for graduate students.
